The Spitfire And The Lancaster

The Spitfire And The Lancaster

$20.00

A tribute to the Spitfire and the Lancaster, the greatest fighter and the best heavy bomber of World War II. This documentary features both flying and non flying examples of the Spitfire including the two airworthy Spitfires operated by the Temora Aviation Museum and the two seater owned and flown by the Australian aviatrix Carolyn Grace.

Also twelve Spitfires in the air at once at the Flying Legends show at Duxford England!

The world’s only two airworthy Lancasters – PA 474 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and FM 213 of the Canadian Warplane Heritage are featured.

And a look at a Lancaster with Australian connections – NX 611 – which served with the French Aeronavale in the Pacific and was flown to England by a Qantas crew in 1965. It is now owned by two chicken farmers at East Kirkby in Lincolnshire and although it does not fly it can make taxi runs up and down the runway.

This film is dedicated to three great aviators all of whom are featured: Alex Henshaw the Spitfire test pilot, Bobby Gibbes Australian WW II ace and Colin Pay one of the founding members of the Australian warbird movement.
