Supercars 2004 Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000 Complete Race Collection

$35.00

The 2004 Bob Jane T-Mart 1000 witnessed an impressive feat as Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly clinched back-to-back victories at the renowned Mount Panorama circuit. The event unfolded as a compelling narrative of triumphs and setbacks, which has become a customary hallmark of Australia’s cherished racing spectacle. In their Kelly Racing Commodore, Murphy and Kelly claimed victory, solidifying Holden’s remarkable streak with a sixth consecutive win in the Bathurst 1000.

The race commenced with Jim and Steven Richards, a father-and-son pairing, taking the pole position in their Perkins Engineering VY Commodore. However, their fortunes took an turn when Jim Richards encountered a collision with a kangaroo that had strayed onto the racetrack, resulting in their early withdrawal from the competition.

The occasion also marked the final appearance of the legendary Peter Brock at Bathurst, in his much-publicised cameo with the Holden Racing Team. Regrettably, Brock’s final lap around Bathurst did not unfold as expected. He and his co-driver, Jason Plato, found themselves with a low qualifying position and during the race Plato engaged in a significant collision with fellow British touring car ace John Cleland in the BJR Falcon.

Over the course of the day, the lead position saw multiple exchanges, with contenders grappling with a variety of challenges. Jason Bright’s Commodore encountered early braking issues, while Mark Skaife’s impressive recovery drive from an unfavorable grid position in the lead HRT Commodore was curtailed when an alternator belt was thrown. Marcos Ambrose, who had taken an early lead in the race, gradually receded in the field due to a reported vibration in his BA Falcon. This left the Craig Lowndes and Glenn Seton FPR entry as the best-performing Ford, poised to challenge Murphy’s dominant position at the front. However, the Ford’s chance at victory was dashed as the leading Commodore reeled off a series of quick times with just 20 laps to go, to building a lead that went unchallenged to the line.
