In 2009, Edwards Air Force Base in California threw open its doors for a special air show marking the fiftieth anniversary of the flight of the North American X 15.The Flight Test Nation air show featured some of the US Air Force’s most sophisticated aircraft including the B 2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, the F 22 Raptor, the B 1 Lancer and the twin hulled White Knight spaceplane from Virgin Galactica, designed to take paying customers into low earth orbit. A look inside the Boeing 747 which carries the Space Shuttle orbiters and some of the experimental aircraft used by the US Air Force Test Pilot school and NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Centre.
In France we visit the air show at La Ferte Alais near Paris, then to England and the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden where we see some of the oldest flyable aircraft in the world. Other museums visited include the Midland Air Museum at Coventry and the Science Museum at South Kensington in London.
