Moffat Bathurst Wins 70, 71 and 73 - 1 Copies Only

$30.00

This release in the Seven’s Magic Moments of Motorsport series celebrates the early Bathurst successes of the blue oval’s favourite son, Allan Moffat.
This special compilation of race highlights covers Moffat’s first three victories at Mount Panorama from 1970, 1971 and 1973.
In only his second-ever start in ‘The Great Race’, Moffat single-handedly drove his factory XW GT-HO Falcon to a stunning victory in the 1970 Hardie-Ferodo 500, a feat he repeated the following year in a new improved factory XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III – the ultimate Aussie muscle car.
Moffat cruised to victory a lap ahead of the second-placed car, the only distraction from a flawless performance coming when a stray empty beer carton attached itself to the front of the big V8, raising concerns about the blocked air intake’s impact on the car’s performance. They needn’t have worried,
the mighty Ford rolled onward to victory without problem.
Peter Brock’s win in the 1972 race stopped Moffat from claiming three Bathursts in a row, but he bounced back in ’73 aboard a brand new XA Falcon GT Hardtop. This was the first year that the race was extended to the new 1000-kilometre distance; meaning all cars required two drivers.
Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan was signed to share the stunning blue and white coupe with Moffat and the #9 Ford claimed victory after both Moffat and Brock had suffered setbacks; the Falcon pilot losing time with a spin heading up the Mountain and the Holden hero when his Torana ran out of fuel with Doug Chivas at the helm.
These three races come from a golden era of the Bathurst endurance race where Moffat and Ford won three of the four Mountain classics between 1970 and 1973.
Moffat eventually won four Bathurst crowns; though the three wins featured on this release each form a very special place in the history of one of the greatest drivers Australian racing has ever seen. Plus as a added bonus an alternative 1973 version.
