Classic Aust Open Wheeler Racing
$30.00
In the late ’50s and early ’60s, open wheelers were the pinnacle of Australian motor racing. Drivers like Stan Jones, Alec Mildren, Bill Patterson, Arnold Glass, Jack Myers and Len Lukey were the stars of the day, and they raced machines that were virtually proper Formula 1 cars. This was the era which saw a complete revolution in open wheeler racing design with the arrival of the rear-engined Coopers which rendered the traditional front-engine cars obsolete – a transition which is highlighted by the ABC footage seen in this DVD.
In addition to the top locals, the 1958 Melbourne Grand Prix boasted international F1 stars like Stirling Moss and Australiaâ??s own Jack Brabham, still a year away from winning the first of his three world championship titles. It’s amazing openwheeler racing action from a classic era of the sport: ’50s F1 cars racing on the original Albert Park circuit, and an amazing insight into what the famous Mount Panorama circuit looked like 46 years ago.
